VOLUNTEER

Why work as a volunteer for Preston’s Promise?

Volunteering is an excellent way of boosting social and professional skills in a working environment. It’s a chance to meet new people, build relationships and even work in a field you have never explored.

Benefits of being a volunteer

One of the biggest benefits from being a volunteer, is that it is an innovative way of networking and making new friends.

  • It is a great way to meet new people and strengthen existing relationships as you are committing to a shared activity together.
  • Volunteering also enhances your ties to the community and broadens your support network, exposing you to people with common interests and neighbourhood resources.
  • Another value gained by being a volunteer is increasing your social and relationship skills. While some of us are naturally outgoing and talkative people, some are shyer and find it harder meeting new people. By volunteering, it is giving you the opportunity to practise and develop your social skills. If you are meeting and working regularly with a group of people with similar interests to yourself, it is easier to become comfortable and use the momentum outside of your volunteering group.
  • A further advantage of volunteering is expanding your work experience. While gaining a paid job from volunteering is not always guaranteed, the experience you gain will really help when it comes to completing job applications and doing interviews.

What our volunteers have to say

I started volunteering for Preston’s Promise late 2020 in the midst of the COVID pandemic and it has truly opened my eyes with how much effort goes on behind the scenes of this really worthwhile charity. Nothing seems to be too much and I, as a volunteer am really enjoying playing my part with this group of lovely people. I enjoy helping others that are in need during these unprecedented times, along with gaining true appreciation of family, friends and community spirit. We all get lost in our world sometimes, and when you volunteer for such charities it makes you appreciate the smaller things around you. Thank you for giving me the opportunity in helping out, and I look forward to working with you long term.

I completed Preston’s Promise’s volunteer application as I wanted to make a difference and help as much as I could during the current situation. I have really enjoyed being a volunteer, seeing old friends again, school & mosque teachers and making new connections. Collectively, as a team, working together I'd like to think we've helped people pull through these testing times.
